General Membership Meeting March 28, 2012 The Project Management Institute Coastal Bend Chapter, is sponsoring an event on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 by Leah Olivarri at the Silverado BBQ Restaurant, 4522 Weber at McArdle, Corpus Christi, TX. "TPCO Gregory Pipe Plant" 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. No cover charge. Lunch expense is Dutch treat. Topic Overview: TPCO America has a project underway to construct a seamless pipe minimill near Gregory Texas. The project represents the largest single investment by a Chinese company in the United States. Groundbreaking for the facility occurred on August 28, 2011 and construction is on-going. When completed, the facility will produce 500,000 metric tons per year of seamless steel pip. Using an electric arc furnace to convert recycled scrap steel and pig iron, the facility will be fueled by electricity and natural gas and will utilize Best Available Control Technology and cutting-edge processes that reduce emissions, conserve energy and decrease environmental impacts. When fully operational, the mill will employ an estimated 600 - 800 workers. About Leah: Leah Pagan Olivarri is the owner and president of Olivarri & Associates, Inc., a consulting firm located in Corpus Christi, Texas. She has 25 years of diverse consulting and government experience. Her areas of expertise include public participation, policy analysis, social and economical assessments, management and operational analysis, and community planning. A native Texan, Leah has a BA degree from Mt. Holyoke College of Massachusetts and a Master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
